anyone else’s 2015-2017 have a different feeling in the pedal when accelerating in 4hi? Usually right after switching to 4hi when stopped and resume normal acceleration? I’m guessing it’s just the gears up front causing this different feeling

Never noticed that, I'll have to pay more attention next time.

What do you mean by different feeling in the pedal? You mean at your foot like how hard it is to press the accelerator pedal?

Compared to what? Were you in 2WD before switching?

Don't think there are gears up front. Power to the front wheels controlled by transfer case.

The gears would be the ones in the IWEs up front. And when I drive normally in 2hi it’s a smooth pedal. When I’m in 4hi, there’s a very slight vibration. Some of my f150 buddies stated that since I’m lifted the CV angles are off just slightly so that’s most likely my culprit

4H or 4A
4H on dry pavement will make noises
4A the noise you hear is the front drive-line engaged. it stays engaged until you switch back to 2H

Not unusual even for a no lift truck you are just feeling the differential work.
Now if you are getting a slight buck or hesitation like it is not wanting to move forward or grinding sounds you have an issue.

How many miles? Swapping fluid especially to Amsoil may smooth you out some.

What Powerboatr said. Are you really driving in 4H?:-- Chuck
I almost always keep it in 4A. Occasionally if I'm going 1000 miles on dry interstate will use 2WD. Have tried 4H & 4L in snow and dirt but have really not found it to be an advantage. Have found them to be a PITA. Only time I would do 4H is in completely snow covered road on a hill if I was all skittish and close to browning shorts. Just my experience, not trying to convince anyone of anything (legal disclaimer). Have only driven Expys since 1998. Don't care about 1 mpg, Do care about traction on wet roads.

I use 4H in my 07’ mostly for mud and deep snow. 4A isn’t quite as good off road as 4H, I use 4A when it mild winter conditions on road.

4L on occasion and select it to exercise the T-case here and there.

Major changes made to the 4x4 system since 2007. 4A is proportional AWD and feeds power to the front axle all the time. Don't know all the mechanicals but my '17 runs better in 4H than my '07 did. Seldom needed as 2H works very well.

We think 15-17 may use an oddball system compared to the 07-14 and 18+ as we talked about this in the 2018+ section a while back.

2007-2014’ and 2018+ both use the BorgWarner TOD transfer case and are shared with the F-150 BW TOD platform. 15-17 was a mystery unlike other years unless we just didn’t find it.

In fact the owners manual for my 2007 read identical to another members 2018 regarding how 4A operated and was controlled. But 15-17 I believe was different.

The trucks had the same BorgWarner tags as I recall as well. The ControlTrac system in mine has impressed me many times both on and off road with how seamless it is. Also appreciate how it communicates with the TC to modulate ABS like a limited slip.
