i have an 03 exp. when i try and put it in 4wd. the 4 high dash light comes on but when i put it in 4 low the dash light does not come on and the 4 high dash light stays on. is this just a dash light problem or is it something with the 4wd? while driving and switching it to 4 high and 4 low there seems to be now difference between them. is there supposed to be a noticeable difference between high and low?

I notice a difference in mine if go down to 4lo vs hi, more torquey, quicker to accelerate - well and the thing turns into a tank!

4x4 issues

My 97 had similar issues. It turned out to be the electric shift motor on the transfer case. The shift motor was no longer moving to the correct position as indicated by the switch on the dash and even tried to move to 4 low while on the freeway with no prompt from the dash switch.

I have read that some people have tapped the shift motor with a hammer to get it to return to the correct position, however I have not tried this.

I had the defective part replaced. Though the repair is a simple one I was unable to initially diagnose the problem. I had a local shop diagnose and replace mine.

The repair was made over 2 months ago with no problems since.
