I’m getting ready to re-tire. Yeah, I couldn’t resist that pun. In considering the new tire purchase, I remember the 5 tire rotation I used to do on my ‘86 CJ-7. I got 60k out of the Goodyear Wranglers (twice) Since the spare wheel on an expedition doesn’t match the 4 on the ground, I’m considering buying a matching spare wheel, and 5 new tires on the upcoming tire purchase. Has anyone out there done this? Having 4wd, twice, I’ve had to prematurely replace tires due to road hazard replacement. My thought is, if all 5 tires are rotated from day one, a non-repairable puncture in one tire would mean buying one tire, and going back to a 4 tire rotation. I’m wondering if anyone has done this, or has any insight on the impact this may have on the 4wd longevity.
