Bought my ford expedition 2011 on dec 1 2011, loaded superchips on it with the 87 tune a few days later, drove it roughly 300 miles, the superchips definitely improved the daily driving, more preppy, no gear hunting, good tune in general.

read around and got scared by people saying that canned tunes kills cars

bought a sct x3 with tunes from 5star, got it a few days past new years

installed the 87 perf tune from 5star, found problems
i've put about a hundred miles or so since loading the 87 performance tune, and there are still a few quirks, seems like the hesitation i mentioned is still there, and it either is gear hunting or something, rpm sticks for a bit before accelerating, this is the best i can describe it, the problem wasnt there with the stock tune, or the canned superchips cortex tune. I filled it up with some 93 octane recently to see if it was a gas problem, and it still has that issue.

93 tune had some problems too, with and without a cai on,
at ~1000-1500 at speeds under 30 mph, every now and then it would make a WOT sound. idle rose ~100 over stock tune i believe maybe more, 13mpg combined on this tune

used that tune for 3+ months, and 3000 miles later, walked away from it somewhat unsatisfied.

yesterday, i updated my superchips cortex 1950, and loaded the 93 performance tune on, and viola, all the pep, and none of the problems i've had. there was always some soft of gear hunting issue with the 5star tune, was told it was normal, the wot kicking in at low speeds and city driving.

canned or not, my transmission shifts super well now, and i dont get anything like wot sounds driving around town. idle at 500rpms, will need a few more hundred miles before i can comment on this tune, i only put in 35 miles today of combined driving ~13.5mpg so far, but will probably average out over time.

I dont think there is anything wrong with "canned" tunes for stock or near stock vehicles. Actually think custom tunes are a waste unless vehicle is significantly modified from stock.

Unless the tuner actually had possession of your vehicle and tuned it via a dyno or the street and datalogging it is sort of their version of a canned tune anyways.

Just my opinion!

Subscribing because I cancelled my edge order in favor of 5star and the fact that I could put the tuner on my next Ford vehicle (if I did 5 star), but interested to see more input. My 2011 xlt will stay mainly stock but need a tuner to get the shifting/acceleration straightened out.

my 2011 xlt is currently stock, i tried a afe cai with the 5 star tune, got the lid for my afe cai from 5star, told mike it DID NOT work, but he just kept telling me it should fit, i gave up trying to tell him this thing doesnt work.

with the afe cai, the WOT noises kick in way loud on my 93 tune, this is at 1000-1500 rpm going 20-30mph, which scares the crap out of me, because my tach doesnt go above 1500 when the wot noise kicks in. as toms89 mentioned, chances are these tunes are canned tunes of sort.

the superchips comes with some sort of powertrain warranty i think, but so far the superchips has given me that feel that 5star hasnt done for me, my previous daily driver was a bmw x3 with sports package, it wasn't a fast car, but it had the pep that the superchips gives me now

I have been running the Supechips Cortex on my 07 for the last couple of years. I have had no problems with the tunes in the truck. I have used all the tunes and the the only one I do not like is the Mileage XS tune. I didn't buy the truck for good MPG so it doesn't matter. I tow a 30' travel trailer and the heavy tow tune works great. I normally use the 87 octane program because in stock form it is close enough to the 91 octane tune that I don't think it's worth running premium. I do have to run premium for the the tow tune. Since I can't tow the TT with the other tunes it's worth it because my only other option is to tow it with the stock tune.
