'97 4x4 failure

1997 4x4 5.4L

the 4x4 feature does not work at all. no if you switch between 4l, 4h, awd.........nothing works.

about a month ago, if you selected a setting, it would just click and different settings would light up.

then it just stopped working. the systen functioned fine last year.

First of all, two suggestions:
1) Go to your local auto parts store and pick up a Haynes Manual for the Expy (I like them better than the Chilton's)
2) Go to Ebay, and purchase the Repair Manual on CD's for your Expy.

Now, from the CD I mentioned above, I have put on .pdf format the schematics for the 4x4 system. Note that mine is a '98, but I do ot think anything changed between our model years.

I would do all the usual stuff such as look at the fuses, and the shift solenoids have been known to have some troubles.

Next, I have also printed out in .pdf format the Diagnostic Routines for checking everything electrically, which includes all the pinpoint tests on the appropriate connectors. Its about 100 pages long!!!! Plus, it is too large to upload (~340k), so if you want it, send me an email so that I can return it to you.
