My girlfriend came home the other day and said something poped in the motor. It is missing something fierce and I was wondering if it might be a blown plug or something. also I smell gas while its running. It wont hardly run unless you make it so I haven't ran it a lot in this condition. has anyone heard of something like this before, or know any tricks I can use to tell the culprit? thank you
PS: don't know if I put this in the right forum discussion or not?

More than likely you do have a blown plug. There are Coil on Plugs (COP's) over each spark plug. They look like a little circular black cap to the inside of the valve covers, and underneath the fuel rails. Look to see if all are still in place. If you cannot find it, more than likely you had the Check Engine Light come on. Go to a local auto parts store (autozone, o'reilly) and ask them if you can rent their scan tool. Bring it home and pull the codes, the plug is underneath the dash on the driver side. Post the codes back and we can help you from there.

ok, ill run to advance tomorrow and I think they can check it there... if not ill rent it and post the results. Its a 97 model so the engine light pretty much stays on. ive put it on the tester before and wheel sensors and all kinds of (cant afford it right now stuff) pops up so... ty for the help. oh and im not sure how to remove the fuel rails properly so ill have to check into that also...
the truck sounds like the exaust is extra loud now too if that is a better clue to the problem

ok, found the culprit...You were right, it was a blown plug. Also I called advance and they didn't have the computer thingy on loan. I would have to bring it there so that was a "No Go"... I tried to re-insert the spark plug and it snugged up pretty tight, without stripping out, so i'm going to try that...I bought a new boot and spark plug, and had an old coil the I replace before and turned out it was something else so... And as luck would have it- It was way in the back on #4 plug where I couldn't reach it hardly...ill repost and let you know how it goes

Look into a time sert kit. I want to say it is part #5553 but you will want to do some research to confirm this. It will re-sleeve the opening so that the plug stays. More than likely after a couple of times hitting 2000 rpms that sucker will let go again the way it is now. Glad you found the problem though!

Oh and I know what you mean by the CEL being on all the time... Mine burnt out a few weeks ago haha.

now I think the DPFE sensor is bad. I was looking at a test to see if it is god and the readings are off a bit (http://rockledge.home.comcast.net/~rockledge/RangerPictureGallery/DPFE-Voltage-Test.html). I think for the 5.4 the reading should be 1.0 volts ,but mine is reading 4.6 on 200m setting. "Scratches head"...It has a bad miss in it still. like when it shifts into a higher gear it wants to stall. but when it is under strain it goes good...any suggestions?
