2008 King Ranch. Background Story. With it being warmer in Pennsylvania in the last few weeks I've noticed that my A/C is not working. Last summer is seemed to not be working as well as it did the summer before. Hooked my manifold gauge up and pressures were fine. Since I wasn't hearing the tell tale signs of the clicking diverter motor I thought maybe it was the controls, especially since I had the same issue with an Explorer in the past.

So last week while I had the engine running I kicked the A/C on and couldn't see the clutch spinning. I couldn't actually see the clutch to begin with, weird. So I turned the A/C off. The spinning pulley looked the same. Hmmm, I need to look at these compressors online to see what the clutch is supposed to look at. So I look online and see that the clutch does look different than what I am used to. I do some more searching and find a video on the good old FordTechMakuloco channel and he confirms that they changed the design of these clutches. Also that there is an issue but it's an easy 5 minute fix. So I watch the video and go crawl under the front of the Expedition this time with the engine off and discover that the clutch is completely missing from my compressor. Well, now that makes sense as sometime during the winter while driving to work in the morning I heard this loud bang from under the car and I knew I didn't hit anything but couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was. Now I'm guessing it was the clutch flying off.

So, the reason I'm here. I order the clutch from Amazon and the bolt and shims from Ford directly. Of course Amazon says that the clutch is something that is returned frequently and there are reviews that say it doesn't fit. So the day I get the clutch I crawl under the front and fit it up on and it doesn't slip on. I'm assuming it's due to rust on the compressor pulley just not letting it on. I've been busy and haven't had a chance to actually pull up on ramps so I have more room but my plan is to get in there with some rust remover and a wire brush and clean the splines to see if I can get this clutch to slip on.

What's everyone's thoughts on this? Is rust likely my issue and everyone else on Amazon is just too dumb to figure that out?

I will of course update this when I figure things out.
