How many if any A/C filters are there? my husband says that the airconditioner stinks, so i did the lysol trick...by turning on all the blowers (front and rear), then spraying lysol into the cowler on the passenger side. I probably did this off and on for ten minutes. After two weeks, I think it really does smell bad. so, was wondering if it'd be a good idea to change the filters...if it has them.

thanks in advance

cnuttgirl,

What year is your Exby? I have seen posts that show the A/C filter unserted into the rear of the blower housing on the front passenger side of the Exby (right above the feet of your passenger - better make sure your passenger has clean smelling feet!!!). Unfortunately, I have heard they are discontinued, at least for my '98, and that the last couple of filter kits were purchased off of Ebay not too long ago.

I have not heard of a filter for the rear unit, but if you think about it, fresh air is not brought into the truck back there, so a filter would not be as effective.

Finally, the smell would be a mold or mildew growth, and I think a filter would not help too much with that.

Check your condensate drain tubes, and make sure they are clear and not holding water back into the evaporator housing, as this will cause nasty stuff to grow in there.

Finally, Ford has a solution to spray into there. I would think that something that kills mold/mildew, like ammonia, would be better than lysol which disinfects and does not touch the mold/mildew.

Hope this helps.

cnuttgirl,

I snagged a file off of another expedition forum. It is for a Hastings replacement filter for the front heat/cool system, and shows where it is installed.

If you can find one, the Ford kit is the F65Z-18D477-AA Cabin Air Filter Kit,

which consists of:

F65Z-19B736-AA Filter Cover and Gasket

F65Z-19N619-AB Filter Assembly

F65Z-19871-AA Bracket #1

F65Z-19871-BA Bracket #2

(2) template pieces

(6) #8 x 32 self-tapping hex-head screws

(5) M5 TORX screws

(2) trim fastners (not used for the F-150)

Hope this helps!!!!

Just to expand on what rwinch was saying...
LYSOL, although good, only kills stuff on contact. Most of what the Lysol contacts when you spray it inside the cowl is the first 10 inches. Not near far enough.

Do what he said as far as checking stuff but look into a foam that is available as an anti-mold & mildew.

But also it is cold in IN right now. Just turn on the cold air to kill it. ;)

If you don't have a filter then the foam will help deodorize.
