Ive read alot of threads about shudders out here but most of them arnt like mine.. I have a 1999 Expd. EB with the 5.4L.110k. ive only had it 1 day... mabe put on 300 miles.. had no problems when i bought it but today goin down the freeway it started to shudder goin up hills... It only does it under light to moderate throttle.. lower rmps (1500-2500) It starts good. idles good. very light flat land driving is good. and WOT is good. shifts good. ive read that coil packs go out and that can cause it... if that is the problem how do i find out witch one it is without replaceing all of them(no CEL yet.... so no code) any info would be great! Not a great start to ownership.....

sounds like a low grade miss-fire... until CEL comes on best thing to do just drive it till the light comes on... thats what I did... but there is a way to check the cop with a volt-meter but i dont know how to... maybe someone could help... or you could buy one cop and start at cylinder 1 then run truck and continue to the next one until miss goes away.... or go to a dealership or garage that can do a test and then see what cylinder is not running right but thats gonna cost a few $$ so best thing is drive it and hope CEL comes on which would be free

Since you've only had it for a day, it may be a good idea to get under the truck and give it a good once over. Check the u-joints, suspension links, ball joints and anything else you can think of.

Once you eliminate driveline and suspension issues, then you can start with the more complex diagnostic work on the engine and trans.

What did the previous owner say about the problem?

For the record, my money is on coil pack(s)

I had the same issue, it was a fouled plug, and since I heard the coils went bad, I replaced all of them, when I did the plugs. Haven't had an issue since.
