Since I live in a two legged rat infested area on Tijuana it's usual for you to be victim at least once a year of something off any of your cars. A short story for those of you that have some xtra time to read:
A year ago we used to have 3 cars: A 1989 Crown Victoria (which I still own and don't want to sell, cuz as a mechanic friend of mine baptized with the phrase: "The one that doesn't know how to fail"... well, this one once last year had an alarm and a new battery; so one morning I drove my teen daughter to her school around 7 AM; came back home and park the car outside; so around 10 AM I was to drive to pick up some groceries; so as I approached the Crown Vic I pushed the button on the alarm control...and nuttin'... WTF???... I thought at first the alarm control was not working, or maybe the small battery inside ran out of power...but no!.... I opened the door and tried to start it to no luck...So I opened the hood to find the battery area emptier than my belly prior to stuff inside my daily dose of McDamage's.... That same month these hairy rats went inside my garage somewhere on the earlier hours of the morning to steal all the fuel they could.
The other car was a 1990 Jeep Cherokee that had its small window broken; once they were inside discovered the original radio installed, so they just left the crime scene without stealing anything. Who says there aren't honest thieves uh?
The third car was a 1998 Cutlass GL whose motorized side mirror was stolen completely with the control gear inside the driver's door.
So seeing this panorama, yesterday a guy approached me with two of these 'end caps' since I asked him to get me some; but these two were different than the original ones with the Ford logo; so I took off the remaining on front and placed these two on the front tires. Where he got these?...Who he stole these from?... Well, when you're immersed in this kind of jungle you don't want to know. How much for these two used? Could you believe US$10?
I recall decades ago that a friend had a car with special aluminum covers that had a small line of steel wire attached to some small lock to avoid one of these rats to steal his prized wheel covers. One night as he came into the parking lot after a night of dancing he started the car and as he ride out of the parking lot he heard the sound of his covers loose, but thankfully he just stepped aside and placed these back in place; so just imagine the thief faces as they tried to rob these.
So with all of this, any one knows of a method to avoid having the 'end caps' stolen? There should be any sort of attachment to have these secure and without a chance of somebody stealing these.
BTW: The neighbor's Mercedes was just stolen off his battery last night.
