03 expedition ac not working, so took it to a shop and they said compressor was bad and removed the freon. I was doing an oil change and noticed the electrical plug for the compressor is unplugged. I want to get ac going again. How do I know if compressor is bad or not without removing it?

With the engine off and no way anyone can start it! See if you can turn the center of the compressor clutch. The clutch is electrically activated and they may have disconnected it to test the coil behind the clutch.

The clutch turns with a little resistance. I was just thinking if they didn't know it was unplugged and said it was bad, I'd hate to replace it if thats not the problem.

Call and ask, was it full of freon? My machine tells me how much it pulls out.

Problem is I took it in quite a while ago. Decided not to mess with it at the time.

Don't plug it back in until you get a charge of 134a Refrigerant and refrigerant oil. You have to look at the spec to see how much to add. Check for leaks with a sniffer. And start troubleshooting.

Best bet is to go to a reputable mechanic that is qualified to work with refrigerant.

Should I just replace the compressor and tvx and ac pressure switch and then get freon added and go from there

Now would be the time to do that, the system is empty.

Get new o-rings, they are cheap, and replace everyone you can while you're at it. Certainly replace every one you remove.
