My '97 5.4 has recently picked up a slight, quick, vibration on the accelerator pedal when I depress the accelerator the first half inch. I can feel it with my foot more than I can hear it. It doesn't do it in neutral. It seems like it is electrical. Does this make any sense to anyone?

check and make sure everything it tightened and in place...doesnt make sense that and electrical issue will make vibrations...could be the engine doing something and your just feeling it through the pedal...is it when you PRESS or release pedal (depress)

The gas pedal would be picking up engine vibrations. With a high speed vibration and if the motor is running fine other than the vibrations (no miss..etc.) I would begin to suspect harmonic balancer may be failing.

It's hard to describe..It isn't really a vibration, it's more like a quick pulsing feel and sound. The closest example I can think of would be that of a taser...that's why I said electrical..Not as loud but the same type vibration. (kind of like zzzzt ) It only lasts a second when I press the pedal the first half inch. Does the accelerator pedal activate anything electrical inside the drivers compartment...?..I knew this might sound weird but after changing my plugs about a thousand miles back, I've learned to expect weird...I appreciate your thoughts...

The 97 is throttle by cable linkage not electric so no. The pedals are adjustable vial an electric motor in the cab but cant see how that would cause the issue you are describing under those circumstances.

Might want to check the throttle cable and linkages for anything obvious.

Did you recently change rear end fluid and have a limited slip? My buddies F-150 has a little shake that you can feel in the gas pedal and he says it is the limited slip diff. You said you don't feel it in nuetrual that could be why.

WELL, I FINALLY FOUND IT...This has driven me crazy for over a year...Yesterday, I decided to take the time to find the vibration or else...I would have swore the vibration was coming from the area of the accelerator pedal..a bad bearing or something..After taking it all apart, lubing it, etc, to no avail..I went under the hood..I used a long screwdriver and pushed on the accelerator linkage under the Triton 5.4 L cover...the cover vibrated at low rpm..there is one screw on the passenger side that was barely loose, causing a short, quick, vibration, but only with it in drive...I tightened the screw only one turn and WALLA....NO VIBRATION...I know this may sound crazy, but I just can't handle vibrations....Now I can start the New Year off "rattle free"...Hope you all have a rattle free and Prosperous NEW YEAR also....:party28:

That would be the clutches chattering. He needs more LS additive.

I am glad you found your rattle, I too am an impatient man when it comes to that. We had a rattle that was only audible as you accelerated, and it sounded like someone shaking sheet metal. For the 2 years since I owned the truck I thought it was my heat shields so I tried every combination of binders and bolts to tighten them up, yet the rattle remained. One day I was under there messing with my heat shields and I accidentally bumped the lower dust shield on the bottom of the bell housing on the transmission. SAME SOUND as when I was accelerating! Turns out it only had one bolt out of 2, so the dust cover swung free on one side. One bolt from a hardware store and 14 stitches later I had no rattle. I gashed my arm because I was trying to tighten the bolt as tight as possible to keep it from falling out... Ratchet slipped and I earned a trip to the urgent care to get patched up, but it was all worth it to no longer have that damned rattle...

My son has been telling me that my Expy does that too, but I've never experienced it until the other day when I had to get on the accelerator from a stop. Now I know how he drives it when I'm not around, haha. Just as you mentioned, kind of a strange zapping vibration of the pedal. Never experienced that before. Now I know where to look - thanks. This place is always a great place to find fixes.
