UPDATE 2

Got the radio back yesterday from the programmer and install it, reinstall the dash bezel. Still need to work on the dash bezel, must remove another quarter of an inch from the top and get the right overlay to get a professional look.

Notice the Ford emblem instead of the Mercury.

Here are some of what I had programmed into the radio, ie, DVD, SR (Satellite Radio) and Line Input for a ipod and to help with rear video when shifting the truck in reverse.

This is a better picture of the different inputs. And I updated the mapping software to a newer version, the unit came with version 1P, I updated to version 6P but the newest version is 9P.

I'm very happy with the way this has turn out so far. My radio had to be programmed for hardwire (H/W) and that was successful. The radio buttons lights up at night and I can control the brightness, the speed volume is fine. When the radio give turn by turn directions you still hear your favorite music in the background without interuption. This was more than I expected. When I finally get it finish I will add some more pictures.

Well I finally got the right sirius dlp module for the navigation unit after reading thru a lot of different forums. My old sirius unit and the wiring harness would not work and I couldn't get a wiring diagram for the sirius module to rewire my old harness, The harnesses are the same length about 20 ft and they cost the same price $85.00, sirius dlp module was $55.00 which was cheaper than the visteon sirius module, it costed $279.00 back in 04. Here are some pictures of the two harneses and the modules.

thanks a million corvettej. This is exactly what I was hoping to find out. I lost out on the other navigation unit, but I am on the hunt again for a unit just like yours. I cant wait to have the nice oem features from a newer 06-10 vehicle in my 03 expedition. I knew you could do this all plug and play with most dodge, chevy, & jeep, but had never done it with a ford. People just say it cant be done because a book or computer dont show it is possible, but it is. THANKS

The Gps antenna for the navigation unit is from Ford. It cost $57.00, the Part number is 8G1Z10E893B, AERIAL ASY.

2003 GPS radio upgrade

Good Day,
I too am trying to install an upgraded radio with GPS. I was able to get a unit that is out of a 2006 and it is said to work in a 2003-2006. My connections look like the ones in the photos by corvetteJ but the new unit has very different ones.
Anyone have a suggestion?

The connections on my old radio seem to be the same as the ones on the newer radio that you installed. I was hoping to have a direct bolt in with no cosmetic mods required.

Yes, you have a 03 late model expedition that will accept the new model navigation system starting in 06 on up, the navigation radio you have in the first two pictures uses navigation CD's instead of DVD's you will need a bunch of CD's, the 06 and up from an Explorer or Mountaineer or 07 Expedition and up uses only one navigation DVD.

So when you say that 07 and newer, do you mean all the way to 2011? The 07-11 look pretty drastically different. Great article by the way. I have an 06 EB that I bought used with the Avic D3 and I cannot keep the steering wheel controls working so I am looking to switch back to the OEM version. Also, I read that with the older Nav unit, there was no way to use the Sirius and the RSES at the same time, is that issue corrected with these newer unit? Finally, where did you send the unit for reprogramming? Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks in advance.

You must use the mounting bracket from your old radio and attach it to the same location on the new radio there are no holes there so you must be creative.

The 07-11 with navigation didn't look much different than the I have. The ones without navigation is a different ballpark because the dash panel and the radio is different, now on the 10-11 the difference on the steering wheel is that the steering wheel has a phone button on it indicating Sync and Bluetooth. I was looking at them yesterday, mostly the F-150 crew cabs.

Since I posted the question, I actually bought the identical unit (by part number) that you showed. I got the antenna and disk as well. I guess what I am trying to figure out is what exactly i need to hook up the factory Sirius and was also wondering who you sent your radio to. I checked here in Cleveland and there doesnt seem to be anyone who does it (reprogramming). I have an 06 EB with the rear DVD and I am hoping that I can add the Sirius to it. I know that I need the tuner and the antenna, and I have seen a harness that can be bought from the dealer, but everything I see regarding the harness indicates that you cannot have factory Sirius and Factory RSES. Would you happen to know if its possible? Thanks in advance.

I don't have rear entertainment in mine but my radio is programmed for it. I got a guy out in Dallas, TX (Denton) named Will at H&H DISTRIBUTORS , he does the programming.
