Hey guys & guylettes...Got a 2010 Expy EL and was wondering if the height that the rear liftgate opens to is adjustable (I think I read or saw that it is). When mine's open I can hit my head on it if I don't duck (I'm 6'1").

Thanks!

Check your vehicle owner’s manual - it is also available online.

It seems the Gen 4 can limit the opening height for lower garages, but you are looking for more height not less. I don't see any adjustment capability on Gen 3 (I have 2011 and 2017). Both of my trucks open to the physical limit of the struts, but at 5/11 I still need to duck under or approach from the side.

The rear gas assist struts are probably failing. As they get weaker (over time) the tail gate doesn’t open as high. I had the same issue on my 08, got a set of cheap struts (from Amazon, about $50) and replaced them, the door went up a couple of extra inches. I am 6’2” tall and easily pass under the gate without hitting my head. My 08 is not adjustable for opening height, I suspect your 2010 is also Not adjustable.

I have the opposite issue. I want to limit the liftgate’s opening. It always whacks the open garage door. I placed a pool noodle on the inside handle to cushion the strike so the gate stops and doesn’t automatically close on me.

If it is 2018 and up Expy, this link will show you how to limit the travel when opening
