Hi all,

I’m thinking about buying an RV (around 25 feet, total weight between 5,000–5,500 lbs). I’ll be towing it with a 2021 Ford Expedition Max Limited 2x4 (non-HD). Do you think this setup is a good match for that weight and size?

I’m also considering adding a transmission cooler to help with towing. Any recommended models or trusted places to install one near Silicon Valley?

Would appreciate any tips, suggestions, or personal experiences. Thanks!

I like to pick fights with the towing police. I find the expy has no problem operating at it's max stated capacity. My only reservation would be if you're towing at higher altitudes.

It's a little tight and will take some careful packing to make sure you stay under the payload capacity. Pay attention to you're tongue weight.

Other than that, you'll also need a weight distributing hitch and a brake controller.

Search the internet “2021 Ford Expedition Towing Selector” brochure. It will explain everything you need to know. Read it thoroughly. It’s really good info and a great start.

I would look into pulling a factory transmission cooler from a wrecking yard or buy one from Ford parts if you really need one. Be sure to top-off transmission and engine coolant after adding it.

I’d recommend the tranny cooler for sure. We have HD tow and pull a 30’ travel trailer around 8,000 lbs and transmission is the first thing to start overheating if I absentmindedly race up a hill.

But you have an awesome tow vehicle and shouldn’t have any trouble with a 25’ trailer as long as you have a brake controller and weight distribution hitch.
