I had a newer stereo installed in my 98 EB with new amp and 12s. Now my balance and fader aren't working properly. I went back to the shop who did the install and he said it's because the Mach system only has 2 jacks coming from the aftermarket plug adapter. He said the only fix he knew was to wire the speakers individually. Is this true? Is there another quick fix way to do this.?

Sounds great other wise but when songs pan from one side to the other I'd like to hear the tracks. The only reason I replaced the factory stereo is cause the CD changer laser went out. I was just gonna install the amp and subs untill that happened .

I just replaced the stereo in my wife's '98 Eddie Bauer with the Mach audio and don't have that problem. Is the new amp just for the sub's or do you have a four channel amp for the door speakers also? What kind of stereo did you put in? To me having the Mach audio shouldn't have had any effect on the outcome. Let us know a few more details and we can help a little more. The store sounds wrong to me but that depends on if you also added an amp for the other speakers and what head unit you installed.

Anyone had this problem? I'm sure if this guy is telling the truth then this must be as common as Mach audio in Ford. I'm going back to the shop tomorrow and have them show me. I paid a shop to install it right the first time so I didn't have to mess with it. Looks like it's not that easy anymore for anything ....boooo

Writing previous post as Rex was responding LOL ...anyway the amp is just for the subs. The receiver is an Xtrons receiver ...I never heard of em but is a quality unit that does more than I can use it for. Shop said it was how the aftermarket harness plugs into the factory speaker harness .

He showed me the harness they used and it did only have 2 outputs. I did a search before I created this thread and only found where people installed aftermarket and then had no sound. Couldn't find anything on balance and fader problems . I didn't pick this shop .. my wife did all this while I was at work last Thursday to surprise me. Yeah she's awesome! I had gotten the stereo, amp., and subs from my brother for Christmas. It's been in his Cherokee for 2 years no problems. Guess I'm not happy with the shops work and they should make it right or tell people about the problem before doing the work. Maybe it's because a woman was driving the vehicle? I will get to the bottom of this tomorrow when I get off work cause now I'm more frustrated.

There shouldn't have been any problem. Your vehicle is a 98 EB just like my wifes and I didn't have any issues. I used this harness that is for Ford Premium Sound systems

Metra Part # 70-5600 | Ford wire harness | Metra Online

I am willing to guess they used the wrong harness or something. My '03 had 2 harnesses in the back of it, like the '98, but when I put an after market head unit in I only reused 1. But one harness, the long flat one, had all the connections for power and such, and the shorter one had all the connections for the speakers. The green one has the 8 wires for the four speakers. Is this the one that had only two sets or was it the harness that plugged directly into the back of the radio? If it was the one from the radio then it may be the radio and not their work, but I don't see why the radio would have settings for an output it doesn't have.

Do you have a model number for the radio? There may be a limiting factor in the radio, but shouldn't be. It should send the low level input to the door speakers and still send a signal thru the RCA cables to the amp for the sub. I am not seeing a reason it shouldn't work.

Victor

I wish you were closer, I'd have you come over and we'd just fix it ourselves. Can you remove the dash panel to get the radio out? If so I would love to see a picture of the kind of harness they used. Just pull the radio out and snap a pic. If you're not comfortable doing it that's ok. Did it work in your brother's truck just fine? It may be the head unit that is limiting this.

Yeah all was fine in his truck. The at the shop said the Mach was different from the premium harness. It's cold and dark here now so I can't pull it out now but I'm going.back to the shop tomorrow and if they don't pull it I'll do it myself in their lot. The model # for the stereo is Xtrons D708. All speakers are working but when I balance to the right it goes back to the subs only, go left and nothing changes. Fader goes seems to go left and right, that's why I thought they wired it wrong. The guy said that it's just a plug and play and it was right but just the way it was with Mach. He also said if I figured a way by asking round the forum to let him know.

I still don't understand why there is a problem. The system in my wife's '98 is the Mach premium sound system and I have no issues. Do you have the original stereo that you could take a picture of the back of it so I could see the plugs?

Well I took some pics but the wife is to busy to put em up for me and I'm not savy enough to do it myself LOL. I know it's easy for some but it's rocket science to me. I talked to a buddy of mine however and he gave me a friend of his # who does this professionally also and spent about the last hour chatting with him. He said to bring it out when we both got time (I work 3rd shift) and he can fix. . He's just gonna hook me up and later whatever I need I'll just go to him and spread the good word. He basically said that's the way the harness is but it needs little mod.to work the way I want it. Thanks for the help Rex I appreciate the effort. Maybe while dude is doing this I can take pics and document for others and post it. I'm sure it's not the last time someone will have this problem.
