Hello all,

Will be getting a new family vehicle in the next couple months and the Ford Expedition is high in the running. That front air dam looks really low, however. I've seen other Expeditions scrape that on parking bumpers and even a steep driveway. The air dam from the FX4 looks higher. Can they be swapped out? Anyone remove that altogether? Any issues with that?

Thank you,

Young

Hey @Young04 ill chime in if that’s cool. I’ve got 2 2016 expeditions (el platinum and limited SWB). On my EL, I hated how far down it dropped so I just took it off and cut 4” off of it. Looks so much better. Ppl will argue it messes with cooling... big eye roll. I saw zero difference. I left my wife’s limited alone, for now. In your case, maybe take it off completely and see how you like it. If you need to, just tape it off and cut some off with a jigsaw to shorten it

There are lots of comments on this and probably even a dedicated thread. Many folks on here are removing them completely and a few have trimmed them. One user posted an excerpt from the owners manual stating you can remove it. Hope this helps.

I'm wondering if there is any reason there would be a didderence between 2 wd and 4 wd? I can't imagine what it would be.

Just an FYI but my 2019 2wd does not hit a typical curb or car stop with the air dam.

The lowest part of my air dam is over 9 inches (mines a 4x4). That would be one heck of a curb.

Possibly Routing of air to the front differential housing helping to keep it cool.

But it really doesn’t matter removing it won’t hurt anything.

Wish I would have read this thread earlier today.
I never really paid much attention to the front air dam. Just got done perusing that link thread.
Going to pull mine because it looks much better.
I was under the truck today and could have done it.

Ditch it or trim it!
