Hey guys/gals,

Replaced a rear air spring and strut in my car. With the tire off and car jacked up, the bag fills up solid....I can't hear or feel a leak.

When I let the car down, as soon as the weight begins to put pressure on the tire....all the air comes rushing out of the air bag.

What is going on?

It fills and holds before weight is applied. So I assume its not the solenoid or air bag itself.

When I try to get my hand in there while the air is rushing out (I only get a second before there's no room)....it feels like it's coming out of the top-ish of the air bag?

If anyone has a clue as to what is going on, please let me know.

I don't see a check valve...doesn't mean there isn't one...I honestly have no idea what is going on.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
FUBAR

Fubar, That's a fairly common problem on the 2003-2006 Expedition & Navigator. Has the front air springs ever been replaced...or removed?

Keep in mind the average air spring lifespan is right at the 10 year mark. If they haven't been replaced before and you need to stay with the air, do yourself a favor and use the good Ford air springs.

This is by far, one of the most finicky, worst designed systems that has ever rolled out of the Blue Oval. Unless you tow....and tow something heavy, I would recommend doing an Air Suspension Conversion kit on your Expedition.
