On 1A Auto I looked up a replacement alternator for a 2001, then checked if that would fit a 2004...No. Those are different generation Expeditions so there's probably not much parts compatibility.

jr1under is correct. The ‘01 motors (4.6/ 5.4) have solid mounting/ hardware holes at the bottom to secure the alternator.

Whereas, the ‘04 EB is slightly different… the mounting points at the bottom are slotted. So, the bolts can still be screwed loosely into the mounting area while the alternator can be lowered/ lifted onto them. Then, there are two more holes at the top for two more bolts to hold it in place.

So, no… they are not interchangeable. I also had a 2004 Eddie Bauer 5.4 that I changed the alternator on. It was a good truck… had approximately 307k’ish miles the last time I saw it. Had given it to my daughter, and she ran the d@mn truck into the ground. I regret it to this day. SMH!!!
