We went out for dinner tonight, then to pick up some fireworks, and to the car wash. When I got home I noticed my license plate lights hanging by their wires, the one on the driver's side was hanging all the way out and the one on the passenger side was loose.

Both of the tabs have broken off. I haven't touched them since I changed out the incandescent bulbs for LEDs. I noted that they were very fragile one broke when I depressed the tab back when I first got the truck to see how they came out and the other broke when I was putting it back in.

These two did it on their own. I hope this isn't going to be an ongoing problem.

I'll be going to the dealership on Monday...

Put regular bulbs back in them befor you head to the dealership. The led bulbs will give the an excuse to deny a warranty repair

It's something that I wanted to do for a long time. My son said some of his friends were Freemasons and he was going to join, so I said, if you join I want to join too so we both became first degree masons at the same time.

I'm going to take it to the dealer on Monday. I hope they have them in stock. I don't think I'll have any problem with them fixing it I bought a lot of cars from them this year.

That's weird that your horn beeps when you close the hatch, that is usually what happens when you quickly press the lock button twice.

before this week, if the engine was running and i exited with the key fob in my pocket. right as the door shut the horn would loud beep.
but friday it beeped only when the engine was running and the rear hatch closed???
weird..

I was or still am a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus. I thought when i joined and went through the steps, that is was more than a group that did good for those who needed it. I am sure they still are, but it got to the point they did great things for people then TOOTED their own horn.
I am one that does for others because i want to, with no need for adoration from others. I prefer for folks not to know i was ever there, Its not why i do things. it contradicted my whole life learning and persona.

back to our regularly scheduled post about lights falling out

PB, It is good to hear you are a noble person, one that is very needed and necessary in the sorry state of affairs we call the world.

I remember when I changed my license plate lights to LED one of the tabs broke. They are cheap and apparently not meant to ever be removed.

I am still with horn blasting twice if I close the door with the engine running and fob in pocket. Ford dealership has "no idea" how to change it. I do like the people at the dealership, but there sure are many boneheads there...

My ambient lighting issue is STILL unresolved after FOUR visits. Apparently, there are "parts" ordered again, so we will see. I mean, seriously....? FIVE warranty visits for something silly like the ambient lightening?? I just want to get it right.

Good luck Andy in your visit. Hope the coffee is fresh for you...

Isn't there some kind of lemon law that says if they can't fix something after 4 times they have to give you another vehicle?

Because we bought so many vehicles there this year (a whole bunch of reasons for that) and I have been doing business with them for 3-1/2 years before they all know me and I have to admit they are pretty decent about taking care of things. When I first bought the truck, the top radiator shroud was scratched like somebody dragged something across it. They replaced it under warranty for me. They replaced the one License plate light under warranty and I paid for the other because it broke when I tried to remove it because I thought I did something wrong, now I know these are defective and they must know it too, so I am going after them for the one I paid for too. The fact is they shouldn't break under normal use like changing a light bulb and if they do, then they are defective.

Unfortunately the locking tabs on these are thin, cheap and made out of a plastic that just doesn't like to bend. I noticed this when I added the 15+ chrome trim to my tailgate. The housings were inexpensive but Definetly made cheap

a latch of sorts designed to be opened to change a bulb, just should not break, because it was opened.

our dealer is pretty good, not as good as the guy who owned it before, but pretty close.
i just hate having to make an appointment for anything other than oil changes and tire rotations.

Are you assuming it was a design flaw? Why not consider the possibility it was 'by design" in order to generate future revenue for the parts industry. They do that, you know.

I can think of hundreds of things I've fixed/worked on where I found myself saying..."why the f did they do that? There's no way to fix it without breaking/replacing that other piece".

The one that gets my the most is why in the hell did they think putting the EGR valve on the back of the motor, with an inch or two of space between it and the firewall, was a good idea. Or the bird cage for the HVAC blower....have to remove everything on the front wheel well to get it out. Air box, washer reservoir, fuel vapor recovery stuff, etc....

Andy,

I wouldn't "lie" by replacing the bulbs with the originals for two reasons....one is that it's wrong and two, you SHOULD be able to replace the bulbs if they fail so if you just tell them they broke while trying to replace the bulbs and they should repair it under warranty.

Agreed! We all know they are prone to failure, so does Ford. Ford is the company that is trying to convince consumers their product is the highest quality. This is where they step up when confronted with a quality issue, as small as it may seem. Just like my ambient lighting.

I'm leaving the LEDs in. I changed them out in March and aside from drying off the vehicle when I wash it I never touch the license plate lights. Ford has to know these things are junk. If this was an old truck, I would just take some silicone and glue them in place.

Good for you Andy....when I first read about your issue I thought to myself...hell, he's bought 3 vehicles from them THIS YEAR....so they would surely take good care of you, especially for something so small in the big picture....!!

Good choice. I have seen several around town and they look GOOD. With that engine, it will be better than any Mercedes!!
We owned and drove Mercedes vehicles for 24 years. Some of their technology was cutting edge and some of it was behind the Japanese cars.

My wife really likes it. It has the small EcoBoost engine but she says that she misses her 6 cylinder 3.2 L engine. I haven't driven it so I don't know. It's too small for me, I would have preferred that she get the Edge but she didn't want to spend any more than we did. I noticed I typed Platinum, it is actually the Titanium, same difference I guess as they don't make a Platinum in an Escape.
