2012 Navigator L 120k in vermont
I recently bought the above and have been getting things sorted out. Usual problems. Rocker Panels, Fixed. Front seat heat/ac, fixed. All thanks to this forum.
When bought the running boards did not work. I bought new motors with hinges attached on eBay. The ones received did not have a provision to attach the rod leading to the rear hinge.
eBay shows that they would work on the L. I contacted the vendor who also insisted they work on the L.
They were installed and the rod was zip tied out of the way. At this point the passenger side works fine.
However, I cannot get the drivers side to retract unless I apply some upward pressure. In the last four weeks I’ve sprayed almost two cans of PB blaster to no avail.
I worked with my mechanic for a couple of hours yesterday. He welded the rod where it should attach to the front hing. That didn’t fix it. He believes that there is a lot of corrosion in the hinge which may work its’ way out. As a test he attached a couple of heavy duty carb spring to the hinge. The little extra pressure did the job. It worked through several cycles. But of course the springs let go so we are back to it binding again.
I’ve unplugged the drivers side so at least we can use the passengers side.
I called the dealer about getting a rear hinge. $1600+, no thanks.
eBay has a few used but none seem to have the ability to mount the rod to them. Also they are all used so how much better off am I going to be.
Any suggestions are welcome.
