Driving home last night in the pouring rain, about 40mph, I hear a beep and I look down at the dash and it reads "engine failsafe mode" but music was up so I didn't feel the engine shut off and I already had blinker on to make a left hand and had foot on brake slowing down. Wasn't until I went to accelerate through the turn that I noticed that the engine had completely went dead in the intersection! I put it in neutral but it wouldn't crank or start. I finally put it in park and had to try twice before the truck started. What could this possibly be? I have a trip planned for June and I don't need this happening when I'm on the road doing 75mph!

I am assuming this is a second gen as mine has done the same thing. It will most likely be an open circuit on the throttle postion sensor. It happened to me 3-4 times a year over a couple of years. I removed the TB, and thoroughly cleaned it with TB cleaner and haven't had a problem since. If it gets bad enough, the only way to fix it is to replace the Tb as the TPS can't be replaced separately.
