Anyone paint their 2003 side mirror covers?
On the new model Expeditions, the front cover to the side mirror is left unpainted whereas on the new model Navigators, they come body colored.
The side mirror covers are actually very easy to remove.
They are held in there by tabs.
To remove the cover, use the remote mirror adjuster and adjust the mirror to the inside most position. Take a flash light and look between the mirror back plate and housing and you'll see two tabs holding the mirror cover in place.
Use a screw driver to massage the tabs free. Then using the remote mirror adjuster again, move the mirror to the out most position and again use a flashlight to locate the remaining two tabs (four tabs total). Once those are off, the cover pops off!
Once they're off, I imagine it's easy enough to get them painted and then put them back on.
DON'T BREAK THE TABS. THEY'RE THE ONLY THINGS HOLDING THE MIRROR HOUSING COVER IN PLACE!
I'm curious what a chromed set would look like.
