Anyone try to route a USB cable from the front dual smart USB ports, back, under the sliding cover, into the dashboard, and out "somewhere" on the dash?

I don't have the trailer backup controller, but the coin holder instead. And I have bought a replacement coin holder to potentially use as an exit point for the above said usb cable (ie drill a hole in the coin holder). So that I can neaten the look of having a usb cable run up to my phone that is held in a mount attached to the vent directly above the coin holder. Or potentially place a mount on this modified coin holder as well.

I did try, and the USB cable can be fed freely as I described above. However, I cannot see the USB cable behind the dash when I remove the coin holder and look for it. I am going to need to figure out a way to move the usb cable further over in order to see it and hopefully it grab it through the coin holder opening.

I'll take a pic later to describe what I am thinking.

Well...that was easy...less than 10 minutes all in!

You can see the black lightning cable going past the USB ports, and then I grabbed it through my coin holder hole.

Drilled a small hole through the coin holder, fed the lightning cable through it, and voila! No issues closing the sliding cover either.

I debated attaching a phone mount to the coin holder too, but I’m not a fan of Apple Play, at least not yet. And I prefer my phone higher so I can see Waze better. So it’s up as high as it can go on that top vent.

If your vehicle has CarPlay (iPhone) or Android Auto (Android), why do you need to mount the phone? your phone's maps, music, messaging can all be voice and touch controlled on the car's larger screen ... AFAIK, all 4th Gen Expy's, except maybe the 2018 XLT, came standard with Sync3, which includes AA/Carplay support.
