I have a 2001 Expedition and the gearshift on the column is very loose and rattles, seems a spring may be broke or off. Any ideas how to get in there and I need to look for?

Thank you!

Thanks for the video tip Bad Ronald, I went to my shop and got the tools, found the bolts but they are tight, I had my fingers crossed that was the problem, but it wasn't. My problem is the gear stiff is almost floppy, but it works as far putting truck in what gear I need. It just seems like a spring is broke or just came loose. I will try any other suggestions, Thank You!

You could drop the column into the drivers seat and inspect the mechanisms operation. Should be easy to tell from there.

Could be neutral safety switch. Mine was like that and now that I replaced it it's perfect

If you google the issue, several videos will come up. Either the cable is stretched or the bushings are worn out. I have the same issue but haven't dealt with mine yet.
