Greetings all. I have a 2019 Expedition Limited which I really enjoy. I tow a 14 ft duel axel enclosed trailer, that carries my 1400 lb trike amount other things. Fully loaded the trailer comes in between 3800 to 4500 lbs depending on the extras I carry. We trailer from Florida to Michigan and back twice a year, 1400 miles each way. My question is does anyone know of a larger fuel tank or auxiliary tank that will fit for the 2019? As it is now, I have to stop for fuel every 165 to 180 miles as I am getting 8 to 9 real mpg in the towing mode.
Thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance.

It is my understanding that there is not additonal room under the Expedition.

I did read that someone either has one or was going to make a small one that fir in the spare tire well underneath. They planned on relocating the spare tire to e rear bumper carrier or the roof. Unless you plan on going full Overlander mode, I think it would be more hassle than it was worth.

Wow that eco boost must be screaming.

You might want to get a scan gauge like the hyper mailers use and try to find a sweet spot in your driving speed. More fuel is just going to increase weight and fuel consumption,.

I can't believe people buy the short version simply because the fuel tank is so small. I bet towing it must be out of fuel every other hour.
No known tank that I've heard of.

I considered long and hard on a Max versus SWB.

I went with the SWB due to the 200 pound additional towing.

Yes, I understand the tank would allow me to go further, the longer wheelbase would afford a more stable towing experience.

However, I really didn’t want/need the additional length for my daily driver, especially when driving in downtown Washington, DC and trying to find parking spots. I’ve been turned away from garages for the size of the Expedition as it is. I could not imagine having to deal with even fewer options.

As of now, I need to stay in garages with a minimum height of 6’9” due to my lift. I recently tested it at a garage where one parking deck was 6’7” and the other is 6’9”. My roof cross bar “touched” the sign ever so slightly. Therefore, my comfort level will be 6’9” since I went in with no issue. I don’t really feel like taking the cross bars off and on every time I need to use them.

So you are Ok with a lift taking away parking options, but not a max! lol. As long as you are happy, thats all that matters! :)

Yes. The length of the SWB fits and maneuvers better in some of the underground garages I go to. The one I usually use happens to be 6’9”. The other is a rarity in DC and it is 7’0” but is a further walk for me. The 6’9” garage stopped me and measured the length of it before letting me proceed. LOL

Glad I live in the middle of nowhere. I wish my Max was a couple feet longer.

Is yours 2wd or 4wd. You might could see if the Max tank could be shoe horned in there. The transfer case might interfere though. Also an F150 tank could be an option. I do think the added weight could be a little counter reactivate but not too much. I would try calling Titan and S&B both and having a serious conversation about it with them. It might be worth a shot.

If i move the spare on my 04 Expy 4x4, i can put a 42 gallon tank in that spot. there are several suppliers, including custom fabricators, on the internet. the toughest part would be the plumbing, since I don't want two fill points, and I don't want to have to switch back and forth.

from my post in the Aux Fuel Tank Discussion in 'After Market Add-Ons' started by kwyorman, Jul 13, 2015: "FWIW, I've calculated the space where the spare goes in my 2nd gen expy can easily hold a 42 gallon tank, with associated plumbing, etc.

since my spare is 32.8 inches tall, I assumed a tank 33" square and 9" deep: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=how+many+gallons+in+9,801+cubic+inches?&t=opera&ia=answer"

Wow 8-9mpg? The trailer must be a tall box with the aerodynamics of a apartment building. And / or your going for a new FL cannonball run record for toy haulers.
Any easy way to tweak the trailer or low hanging fruit on the Expedition like massive roof racks or mud terrain tires? All of those things add up on the fuel bill.

My top favorite was my buddies open trailer with giant expanded metal tip up ramp. His mileage was horrendous. I suggested he try popping that giant WWII bomber break off and use ramps. He saw a 7mpg gain on his trip!!! The bomber break went to the scrap yard

Its my understanding that add on gas tanks can only be done in the bed of trucks. diesel is a different matter. I would love an additional gas tank!

Hey @joethefordguy I have an 03 and could use the extra gas for desert trips. Did you ever find a supplier/fabricator?

I get 6-7mpg towing a 20' enclosed weighing about 5600 lbs (4000lb trailer + 1600lb cargo). Trailer height is 10' from ground to top of the AC unit on top of the trailer.

And yes, I am having to stop every other hour to refuel. You can literally watch the fuel level tick down while driving.

I want a second tank for increased range also. Bad thing is, i suspect the rear spare is an integral part of the rear impact collision system. A larger tank situated where the OEM tank is would be a better option.
