I have a 2000 ford Expedition AWD and since the truck was newer when I am at a stop and turn the wheel and accelerate something in the front end rubs. It almost feels like the truck is in 4wd and I am driving on dry pavement. It only happens at a low speed acceleration and with the steering turned. I now have a new problem and am wondering if it is linked together. When driving normal it feels like the truck is enguaged in 4wd. Could it be the front hubs/wheel bearings are bad? The truck is AWD and feels like it is constantly in 4-High. Plus i am getting lousy gas mileage. Feels like there is a drag and the front drivers side is squeeling at times. I have 4 brand new tires all the same size and the correct size for the vehicle. Any suggestions?

I agree with mindgame, that usually is the case. To rule out the wheel hubs though (and to make sure you are fixing the right thing), pull fuse 104 under the hood with the truck off and in a4wd when you shut it off. This will disable the transfer case, if the problem is still there, you know it is not the 4wd and is more likely a hub or CV joint. Hope that helps.

2000 expy has no IWE's or center axle disconnect.

Front drivetrain always spins its just a matter of whether the TC clutch is applying power to the front end. If it is locked in it will fight you turning and will bind noticeably.

If it is engaging 4wd pulling fuse 104 as FordandPolaris said should disable it. Other things to check would be front brakes, wheel bearings and cv joints.

Learn something new everyday. That is good to know there is no IWE in the 1st gens. Thanks Tom!

97 & 98 do have the center axle disconnect where later 1st gens do not. They also dropped the 2wd selection on the later 1st gens when they dropped the center axle disconnect.

I believe IWE's started on the 2nd gen expys along with return of the 2wd selection.
