Not the same gen, but I had a speedo that played around randomly and a flashing O/D off light (trans in limp mode) after a rebuild. I had to change both the shaft speed sensor and its connector. Make sure the hole into which the sensor is dry and fully cleaned of any debris, and only apply oil on the sensor's o-ring. Also, the connector must be fully clicked and attached onto the sensor, and when replacing the connector, make sure it's the exact same shape, since I faced a huge problem in finding the same shape and found it on Temu of all places (it works perfectly fine). I used a Dorman sensor that works great. If the trans is in limp mode, the car might still drive relatively normal, but the trans overheats like crazy and burns off oil. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the info, I was crisping for straws on the speed test, it came back before I could get do it.. So I noticed I would scan and do a hard reset, then crank, and go drive any speed, and would get back and run another scan, which was good.. I then shut it off and re scanned and the PO500 showed up.. So, I was thinking something is upsetting the GEM, so I got to thinking that main connection is the ignition solenoid, so I changed it.. So far, it hasn’t showed up.. It probably will since I said this here lol.. I sure hope it is, I need to move on lol
BTW, you are correct on that weird limp mode, I’m just glad someone else recognized it.. It’s almost normal, but the only difference is on mine is the shifts take a little longer, and you have to give it more gas to get it going..

It's always seemed that a flaky GEM is somehow involved with this behavior. Easy observation but what's flaking it out...? A while back, there was a comment something like "maintaining 25 year old vehicles is not for the easily discouraged." You are definitely not easily discouraged and I've learned a lot just by following along!

Thanks Jr1under, so far so good.. I even took it out in a storm, and stopped and shut it off several times, and everything is still good..
I believe I can get on to the next problem now..
I’m slow, but I eventually get to my destination lol
Have a good one friend

I knew I shouldn’t have bragged on it..
It done something different this time.. I was going somewhere and I noticed my odometer went completely dark..I wish I would stopped and done a code check then, but I didn’t..Anyway I decided to bump the speed up and done the speed test.. Got home and there it was after another test, I cleared it, shut it down, started it and ran another code check.. There it was again.. .. I unhooked the battery to do a hard reset with a jumper to both positive and negative cables.. This will clear the GEM.. In the morning I will have to do that speed test again, since I didn’t do a code check when the odometer went out, to make sure it is the speed because this is the best it’s ever done..
Apparently something is going on with the rear end, when I get to around 70 and above.. I’ve had the tire balance twice to make sure.. The left axle has a bunch of in and out play while the passenger axle is very minimal..
I’m convinced now I possibly had two areas effecting this situation because everything was running good.. I just wish I had done the code check when the odometer went out to see if the po500 showed up then..
I got a camera to look inside the differential to see what I can see..
With that Odometer doing what it did, points to the Gem, btw, it came back on before I got home..
If non of this works out, I’m going to change out the main power box, and the Gem no matter what.. Why the MJB ? My fog lights wouldn’t work , and checking the fuse, the blades to set the fuse was gone, lol so it’s probably dangling under it somehow..
I’m mad now, this thing is going to be fixed one way or another hehe
Any suggestions would be appreciated

For years, my odometer has occasionally gone dark and what I've read about it points to failed solder joints as a likely suspect. Sometimes the odometer relights while driving but usually doesn't come back on until after a restart. I've always considered it an ignorable problem mainly because of the effort required just to access it. Do you think yours is a symptom of a bigger issue?
