If you have an Infrared heat gun, run the engine until hot. then run it at about 2000 rpm for 2 minutes or so. Use the heat gun to check the temp on the exhaust pipe going it to and out of the cat converter and see if the temp goes up by at least 50 degrees f from the front to the back. If it does, it means that the cat is burning the unused fuel and is working correctly. Hope this is the info you were after.
if your converter is clogged then they will glow cherry red in the dark. If it is not helping emissions it will trigger a check engine light.... that's what those O2 sensors after the cats are for....
