When I got my 05 Exped in Sept. I immediately ordered a K&N CAI system. Got it almost all put on and realized that they had left out the small nozzle that screws into the intake tube just in frront of the TB for the brake boost vacuum line. After an phone call, Monday, they promised to overnight it. NOT. Another call Thursday and I got it Friday.
Then there was a bracket that screwed to the underside if the air intake that was supposed to attach to a non-existant engine bracket that supported the filter in the filter housing. They said that Ford must have made a change in the mid-year design that never was picked up at K&N. I was able to juryrig a support for the unit to take the strain off the hose clamps on the TB. So no whistling noises.
But I was very disappointed with the service from K&N and will not buy their products again!:nono:
Thanks for listening.

not a big K&N fan.the oil messes up the mass air flow sensor
by coating the sensor with oil. leans out the engine and sets

Don't use the filter without re-oiling it! The holes in the cotton on these filters are big! without the oil you will have 500 grit sand paper in your intake tract and the rest of the engine. You need the oil to trap the dirt. Just don't over-oil the filter as you will have the problems Just4fun describes. There is a fine line between too much and not enough oil with these filters.......

yes they come pre-oiled when new. If the K&N Element is Red then it is oiled already (the oil is red). The element is white when washed and free of oil/dirt.

check out this video.... this is an interview with the K&N VP at the SEMA show. They actually built a test fixture to try and prove to everybody that the oil doesn't get sucked into the intake. I agree with that accept in the case of over-oiling. I have done it myself..... over-oiling the element will cause it to let oil into the intake tract and possibly on to the mass air meter sensing element.
