After chasing around ghosts for 4 months because the check engine light kept coming on for running lean, I bit the bullet and took my expedition in to the dealer. Turns out that the MAF was bad.

Does anyone know how to backprobe the MAF? It cost $100 for the dealer to tell me to change an $80 part.:shootout:

The only real way to see the MAF act up is with data logging through the OBDII port. You would have to notice the fuel trims out of wack and investigate and then you would notice that the airflow being measured by the MAF is low for the given RPM per the ford factory specifications.

Short answer is that you spent good money if that's all it cost to figure out that the MAF was bad.

I was considering getting a Jet performance MAF. Does anyone have one? How does it perform?

In my opinion you will not gain anything. The MAF meter is sized big enough for the throttle body. You would be spending better money getting a cold air kit that replaces the factory inlet pipe and such, then look into a programmer like the ones at www.snipertuning.com or the ones from hypertech or superchips.
Just my 2 cents,
Matt
