hi,
im having the battery drain issue so i pulled fuse 38 ,rear wiper, still draining. Been going on for a week, drains over night. did notice that my tailgate was ajar yesterday, after shopping, and the interior lights stayed on for a few hours does this model have a battery saver relay. does anyone know a part number. yesterday was the first time the tail gate was ajar. also my backup assistant is out could that cause the drain?

thanks Ray

i have only had this truck 2003 expedition 5.4 since last week. i did replace the battery with a optima, problem still going on

I think unfortunately your going to have to do the pull fuse, and observe meter amp draw test. Theirs many videos online that show you how. When you locate that item that's causing the drain, the milliamp drop will be much higher than the others. It usually takes about 1/2 hour or so to do all fuses. Good luck.

something changed yesterday. i still haven't gotten a chance to do a pull fuse drain test. yesterday after it had to sit idling for about 45 min i came out to the lights looking like they were breathing. touched the gas and the lights brightened. drove home (100 miles)it was fine. once home unloading expy at idle lights went dime then would brighten. revved the gas and lights brightened back up.
could the alt/voltage reg also be the overnight drain problem? lights had never dimmed before yesterday. put expy on charger overnight, then drove to work 5 miles, at work let idle for a few minutes lights never dimmed.

Actually Ray, it was more likely the voltage regulator on the back of alternator misbehaving. Diodes just direct current if memory serves me. A regulator is like a governor that keeps the alternator within a certain voltage, under 15 volts, mines about 14.2 or so running. I had an 82 5.0 Mustang years back that had an external regulator that went south, fried my new battery in less than a day. It was charging close to 17.5 volts. Glad your up and charging right. Had to change my alternator last month myself.
