I was wondering if anyone has used the DYI Bedliner for undercoating. Any reason why this wouldn't work?

It could work. However, they also have do-it yourself undercoating...

A lot of people use bed liner for under coating. I would love to do it my self but time is an issue. You just have to get an angle grinder with a wire wheel and strip the whole bottom of the truck. Then you use like a rust inhibitor then comes the bed liner end. Bed liner applications are different per brand.

That sounds pretty labor intensive, I will probably stick with undercoating then. Any thoughts on the sound difference between UC and BL?

Don't you still some warranty left on rusting? That should be voided out if you do. If you don't it should work excepting the drain holes. Are you on the beach side of NC?

Wow, I can remember as a kid when someone bought a new car or truck the first thing they did was to get it undercoated with tar from a 55 gallon drum and a air compressor. The place was a disaster zone and would be one of those superfund sites today by the EPA.

I'm in the triangle area. I remember that as well, is zebart still around? I didn't consider the warranty. I want to get some protection on it before I head back to the Midwest.

I would think about that rust warranty. There seems to be a problem with the tailgate paint and it being an alloy finish. One of my warranty books says do not do because it will plug drains and was done at the factory and will void your warranty.
Is it rust or road noise you are trying to get at? Unless you have been on very rocky roads you should be fine. I think the thing to do is watching for leaks in the cabin the could lead to rust and if you off road any make sure you clean the bottom side so all the drains are open and clear of trash under the hood as well. I have seen a couple of threads about leaks around the windshield getting under dash electronics wet.

I'll read up on it. I was mainly looking for protection from salt when I head back to Chicago. Road noise can be handled with sound barrier for audio.

It would be better to apply some kind of rust prevention paint first like POR15 unless yours is rust free.

You took the words out of my mouth..... Por15 works wonder and I've used it so I would highly recommend this product just don't get it on your skin or you will have it on you for weeks if not a month.

I had my truck Ziebart-ed when I had it shipped form california to michigan...that was the first stop for it...they have a sound deadner they use on the bottom and it works well...as I look back now and the truck has never seen snow or salt and sits in the garage from October to March...I could have put that money on something else for the truck.
