This truck (2001 XLT) would be a much better family car if it had a bench seat instead of the large mostly useless storage box/armrest.

I assme one from an F150 would be pretty simple to install. Has anyone tried this or bench seats from other big luxry cars?

I'd like to know this as well... Love the front bench!

One thing to consider, hertford, is that the carpet under the console has holes in it and is split. So if you were to add a bench, the carpeting may have to be addressed (replaced).

Yeah, it would be ugly until i resolve the carpet issue. But that's minor.
Being able to stretch out and rest on a long trip would be a big plus.

oh yeah.. one more thing I forgot to mention. If you look at my DIY writeup from today on the blend door fix, there are a series of vents to the back seats that are under the console and may be damaged by someone sitting in the center where a bench is. The venting is pretty thin and could collapse. It's really interesting all the crud Ford has buried under the console.

And I hear you about stretching out.. loved sitting kinda sideways on long trips in my old 80s/90s F150s.

Id totally do this if I can find a cheap enough matching front bench. I love the storage but having bench is better

OT: speaking of storage, there is a HUGE space left out under the floor of the center armrest console. I pulled the floor under and there is about a cubic foot of space underneath...good for a custom made gun safe....

bench fits the 60 40 split fits and I also had the captains with console and my current and favorite set up is the 60/40 split with the middle being a console and a seat... use the bolts that are in your floor and everything lines up
