We bought our 2019 Expedition a few weeks ago and as I was checking something near the rear wheels I noticed that the large diameter tube that runs across the frame just in front of the rear wheels has a bent. Based on the weld, this seems to be intentional, but wanted to see if this was typical for this generation of expeditions. See pictures for reference.

My Expy has the same bend, I think its intentional, probably required to allow the large tube to be formed to the curved shape that ford needed.

Yep. I noticed that installing my ReadyLift. Very odd.
The engineer in me could not let it go. It had me in lockup for at least 30 minutes as I lay on my creeper under the truck staring at it.

Don’t get me started on that multi-link trailing arm setup in the back. There’s gotta be a better way, amiright?

Engineer to Engineer....

I apologize in advance to any Ford chassis guys in advance. I spent the first part of my Ford career in Body manufacturing. We were constantly being benchmarked by Honda, Toyota and Benz, because we were highly successful technology, quality, cost and launch wise. it was fun. We led the industry. As I browse this site with many deserved complaints, no one complains about the all aluminum body, it's taken for granted (like everything else should be). But, compare the body to the competition brand new, at 5 years, at 10 years, at 20 years. It will be better than anything else out there for ever in automotive years.

My last couple of years was in Final Assembly/Chassis. They existed in a time warp 30 years behind the body guys. I couldn't fix it, I couldn't stand the incompetence, so I quit.

I have another thread somewhere explaining the history behind the rear multilink suspension in the Gen III and IV and why the Gen II was far superior.

Just saying.
