My main question is should I pay for an entire catback system instead of just the muffler? I've already ordered my Magnaflor y-pipe which is where I could definitely see the most constriction. The rest of the pipes look fine except for the copious amount of cats. Also, what's your opinion on muffler quality in horsepower and especially sound? Gibson or Magnaflow? Read thru all the searches that all this doesn't matter as long as I keep my stock heads where the most constriction on breathing occurs. Already have a K&N 77 High Flow Intake.

*Forgot to add She's an '04/5.4

I'm just passing on information from others, but it seems that replacing just the muffler would probably be best. 3 inch pipes shouldn't be used unless you have forced induction.

You're already changing the Y-pipe. I got my Maggy muffler from performance peddler for 70ish bucks.

If you have 4 cats, I think you can take out the last two and no codes will be thrown. Or, you can replace all four with two high flow Magnaflow cats for awesome sound :)

This is a good question thread ... when my tax return gets here i wanted to convert to a dual exhaust. Anyone have any reccommendations? I was gonna have it done at a local shop with magnaflow mufflers ... Suggestions would rock ...

BTW i already have the K&N 77 series CAI ... if it helps

Here's what I've learned/picked up from this forum and F150online about going dual:

-Unless you have forced induction (supercharger/turbo), go with 2 1/4 in pipes.
-You might want to get an X pipe.
-You have the option of going two separate mufflers, or one dual in, dual out muffler.
-If you want sound (and you have the money) you could also get two high flow cats to replace the 4 you have (I think you have 4)
-You could save some money by buying alot of the stuff before hand, instead of getting it from the muffler shop (sites like performancepeddler.com have all the stuff mentioned above).
-The bigger the exhaust(s) the quieter the sound.

Good advice ... so far i am shopping autoanything.com ... used the site before and liked it. I was gonna get two magnaflow series somethings i would like the pipes to come out the back seperately on each side of the spare tire. I would like the way that looks .... i may have to skip the high flow cats ... i am not gonna actually put a package together until i have money in hand. 2 and 1/4 is what i have been lookin at people say 3'' is bad to them so ...

The missus dont want it super loud but i want some grumble for sure ....

I just got a 50 series SUV muffler on my '06, and they said there was no room for dual exhaust, unless I went with 2" pipes and did a complete fab job, which they wanted around $450-500 for. I stuck with just a single in/single out, and I love the sound of it. WAY better than stock.

I had a gibson, it was decent and wasn't to loud. Bit of a drone though but I'd say magnaflow would be better.
