Hi folks, I could not find anything relevant with the search function, thanks for your participation in this forum.

'04 with 155k was experiencing a grinding noise from front rotors when they were most hot, essentially just before a complete stop. No noise when cold. The rotors were old, so i replaced them, pads were almost new, so left them. I'm getting the same grinding noise as the rotors heat up, what could be causing this? Are there metal contaminates in the pads from the last set of rotors?

thank you.

Check the lower arch of the pad, it may be contacting the hub or another portion of of the rotor. Ask me how I know.

if that's not it I would change the pads and use high quality ones

it can just be a characteristic of the pad on it

or the pad could be worn unevenly or glazed from the old rotor

its always best to replace the pads when putting new rotors on anyway

are the calipers and slides in good condition?

what was wrong with the rotors?

I'm am having this same issue as well on slow stops in my 04 5.4 xlt. No issues on hard braking, mostly slow easy stops in city. I would love to figure it out very annoying.

thread update: I ordered new pads from rockauto, but have yet to put them in. I'm confident that will fix it, but will update when installed. thanks.
