I bought a new 2013 Expedition in Saudi Arabia. The truck was built at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville KY and I want to send it back to the USA when I retire this year. I did a VIN decoder search and it showed my Expedition has the same specs as those sold in the US domestic market. However, the window sticker indicates for export only.

Ford Customer Care is of no help. Can anyone help me with this issue?

Thank you for the prompt response. CBP keeps responding in the context of importing a foreign built vehicle. I'll keep trying...

Ford customer service isn't in the import/export business, so wouldn't expect them to be of much help. US mfgs have produced vehicles that do not confirm to US standards, thus strictly export. Don't think this applies to Expedition though.

Open your drivers side door and the white sticker with all the specs and information, right in the center there needs to be a statement about 'this vehicle confirms to all federal standards' and so on. If that is present, which I suspect it will be, your import will be easy. Since its relatively new, the EPA already has the emissions documents online that you will need. Under your hood should be an emissions sticker which has a long string of numbers. You and customs need to be able to read this sticker. Each year the number changes for every vehicle.

Download EPA form 3520-1 and Customs form HS-7. And proof of ownership, I'm assuming there is some sort of title or MSO. I realize you bought your 2013 new, but if you happen to have a loan against it that could be a problem.

Are you a private citizen using a shipper of your choice or are you military/government and letting them handle it?

Thank You, Flexpedition. The information is very much appreciated. No, I'm not military, I'm a petroleum engineer reaching retirement age here in Saudi Arabia. I own the truck outright and have all documentation. I will review the sticker inside the door to see if it meets all federal standards as you suggested.

Thanks again!!

I believe if the vehicle was “for export only” and sold in Saudi Arabia, it doesn’t matter if it was built in Kentucky or not. It was initially sold and titled there, so it will need to be treated as a foreign vehicle.

Since it was manufactured in the USA originally you may be able to import it without paying any duty, but it will still have to be safety inspected and such as a foreign vehicle.

I live in Canada and we deal with this a lot. I have imported vehicles into Canada but never into the USA.

Thank you for the additional perspective. I will research the matter in terms of importing the vehicle as foreign while manufactured in the USA.
