Hi Gang. I’m I’m a little trouble and I’m hoping to get some help. I’m half way on a cross country trip and my Expedition has flashed a P0345 and P0349 codes. One is an intermittent car sensor. My question is, can I complete the rest of my trip , about 1400 miles, before I get it fixed!

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. But I’m not a mechanic and I have no idea where to look for that connection. Is there anyway you could describe it to me or guide me in some way? Do you think I can drive it? I have had zero symptoms.

Is your SUV making any weird noises? It's hard to give you a definite answer, as some here have nursed along a bad cam phaser, or solenoid, for a long time. Others fail sooner. Robert, pull into any reputable shop, it's less than a 30 minute job. I'd have them change the outside sensor. If the mechanic finds that it's a cam phaser, that's a much larger job. Because your on a long trip, I wouldn't push my luck.

No symptoms at all! No noises, no rough idle, no bad starting, no drop in fuel mileage, nothing.

Balls in your court, but like I said it's an easy fix, the part even through Ford is under $40.00. $18.00 through Auto Zone or Oreillys.

May just be the cam sensor itself is acting up and needs replacement. Like Moose said easy fix to just get it out of the way.

Ya, I will get it fixed. It’s just hard to know if the place is reputable in the middle of nowhere Texas. But I’ll cross my fingers and find someone.

I really hope it's not the phasers, when I had both codes come up on my 05 with no additional symptoms like you I was out of an engine in less than 200 miles.... but I had a chain slap noise on start ups for a week prior which then disappeared for a few days before the codes for camshaft sensors codes came up so I'm really hoping you're no where near where I went through, that's a nightmare i never wish upon even my worst enemy.

I have an update. A nice guy at an auto parts store in BFE reset the check engine light for me and it’s lasted all this time. BUT the light just came back on again. I was hoping someone could tell me how the symptoms would differ between the position sensors and the phasers. One I can afford, one I can’t.

Thank in advance!!

Phasers will knock and make it idle like a diesel. You also often experience loss of power and stalling if they get very bad.

Excellent, thank you. Mine is not doing that so maybe I’m good for awhile. I’ll do the sensors tomorrow. I saw online there are solenoids also. Would be a good idea to do the replacemthos also?
