The brake rotors on my 13 EL are warped beyond belief. It literally is hard to hold the steering wheel it shakes so hard when stopping from highway speed. The pedal pulse is strong. Had all rotors turned a few months ago and one week later it started and now is horrendous.

So, my question, I'm going to replace the rotors and am looking for suggestions on manufacturer and model. Don't tell me Motorcraft, given them a chance already. Also, I'm going to be sure to use my torque wrench when tightening lugs. I think the dealer that did the brakes previously, used the air impact to tighten them last time.

I can hardly stand it in mine as well. I was just at Oreilley's Auto looking into this and they have the Bosch rotors that have a lifetime warranty. They also have a $10 rebate per rotor. I was told that they will turn them for free or replace them if they can't be turned anymore. I think they were $98/ea and supposed to be pretty heavy duty.

That's what I'm going with if I can't get my truck's rotors turned this weekend. Some people swear by Cryo treated rotors. You should be able to find out more about that if you do a search, but they're supposed to be less prone to hot spots (which is more likely what's actually happening) and warping.

BTW, if you're military or retired vet you get a discount there too...10% if I remember right.

One other thing to look at is a steering stabilizer. My Excursion's was bad and I almost couldn't control it when coming to a stop; it was so bad. I put a new Bilstein stabilizer in and it was like driving a new truck. I always had issues with the rotors on that thing too.

I would never waste my time or money turning a rotor. (and I used to own a tune up and brake shop). I mean what makes anyone think that making that rotor THINNER is going to keep it from warping in the future?

I've had great success with Brakemotive kits. The kit includes drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads. I've used them on the Expy, my brothers SporTrac, my mother's mustang and my Excursion. Never had a single issue. The price is usually less than $125 per axle.

Brakemotive is an ebay seller, but don't let that sway you. Everything is very good quality.

Now comes the time of inner reflection and truth. Pay attention to your (or whoever is the normal driver) driving habits. Frequent hard braking and/or riding the brake (even very lightly) can warp even the best rotors.

That's the very set I used on my Excursion and had the same issue in less than 20k miles on them.
