You can buy a new or used funnel off ebay for the capless gas tanks for ford, I did as I bought my Expedition used and they either did not put the white funnel in the rear where the small locker where the jack is located, but I got one cheap off ebay.

They sell the cap less funnel at Walmat, for a $1, I have a couple now. Some of the fuel injection cleaners and octane boost, are now in a long neck bottle. It says on bottle for cap less vehicles. I have one I re-use, to add my Lucas Fuel treatment. I believe the cap less design, was an Obama, EPA thing. Apparently millions of gallons of gas are wasted each year, due people driving with no gas cap.

The door on my Navigator locks with the door locks. If your vehicle is locked, the fuel door is locked.
What year is yours? Just tried this on my ‘18 Reserve and it does not lock the fuel door.

I don't know why the gas filler cover doesn't lock. Other than it's flimsy plastic and easy to break open.

I know you’re referring to the 4th generation models, but for my 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4, I bought a locking fuel cap “plug” from Ford and use it all the time. It came with 2 keys, which I put on each of the intelligent key fobs (and had a spare made that I keep in the glove box).

I live in the Midwest (cold winters + snow and ice) and put a light film of silicone dielectric grease on the rubber seal on the inside of the fuel filler door.

My garage is 70*, so it'll melt off any snow or ice that ever accumulates on mine in northern Wisconsin!

Maybe I am wrong. I thought it locked. My Navigator is not here now, so I cannot check it. I will check and verify I am correct. Mine is a 2019.

The 2010 Fusion had this and I had no issues with it. Never noticed spilling anything when adding a bottle of fuel injector cleaner (only do it about once a year).

However, with the 2014 Expedition I lost the first bottle of fuel injector cleaner down inside the fender and it dripped out on the gravel of the driveway. I didn't notice till I turned around to pick up the 2nd bottle (big tank.…) that it was running onto the gravel. On the second bottle I really jammed the long skinny neck of the bottle down into the hole and that one went fine. Did it on the next one (wanted two since it was a full tank of gas) and didn't spill it either.

Been thinking about getting a long skinny necked funnel to put back in the jack compartment, just in case.

Along with the reasons cited, remember that with modern emissions the gas cap needs to be properly torqued (3 clicks) or a CEL will be thrown. How many road side assistance visits and warranty claims does Ford save on?

I agree with this and will add this is a cost savings that was passed on to owners as well.

Go and buy a Ford OEM locking gas cap for it. I did the first week I had the '16 truck. A good investment for it. As for additives, I run Marvel Mystery Oil 4oz per 10 gallons of 93 octane.

Is a locking gas cap avail on new expeditions? Any fill port covers? I know the diesel crowd has machined plugs made up to cover the port so dust dirt dont enter.

You posted for a 16. I haven't found anything for a new 19 on fords accessory page for 2019 expedition. Is there a link you have?

Always exercise the flapper a few time when you gas up. When they first came out they had a problem with them not sealing sometimes. It was actually from lack of use and the fix was opening and closing them to get them to seat. My first Gen Raptor had this problem and once I started doing it I never had any problems again. I love not having the cap.

The capless setup is way better all around. Just the minor inconvenience of using a funnel for additives or stuff that doesn’t come in a bottle to accommodate. If you fill from a gas can, you’ll need the funnel if you don’t have one with a proper spout. The capless system also maintains a slight vacuum and it’s more of hassle if you need to siphon gas back out of your vehicle.

No locking fuel door on the new Expy’s is a bit of a mystery. Although locking doors/caps are no longer required with the capless systems. I suppose if it locked, it would make it a tiny bit harder for someone to sabotage your ride. They’re not going to steal your gas by trying to siphon it out. A while back when gas prices were way up, fuel thieves were hitting airport and other long term parking locations to steal gas. They were punching holes in the tanks from below. At least that’s how it was happening in Denver and Phoenix.

My ‘12 Expy was capless also. Only two vehicles I currently own that are not capless are a ‘17 MINI Clubman and my F-350 diesel - not aware of any capless diesel setups.

I'll add my vote to the capless gas tank dummy design. The dust in my part of MT is VERY fine...I need to keep it out of the gas tank with a paper towel over the gas fill port. Prior to this, my fuel pump failed early on - no doubt to the dust finding it's way into the gas tank. Now it appears my fuel injectors are leaking gas when the car sits causing a 'flooded' start. I will look into the gas cap mentioned in this thread - thanks for that!

To add to the dummy design...Ford apparently does not provide a software hack to turn off the front bumper warning buzzer so my grill guard always sets off the buzzer until I push the reset button. I loath the day the reset button fails due to being worn out from pushing it every single time the car is started.

Hey FORD, design a truck suitable for ALL conditions not just Sunday drives on Park Avenue.
