This is a pretty good thread if you haven't seen it. Helped me make my decision, and I posted a bunch of photos from my UPR dual side "plug n play" install on pages 7-8: For Those Who Don't Think a Catch Can is Needed on Gen 4 s...

I will say that in about 1500 miles of driving after install, my driver's side/"clean side" can had nothing in it. I double checked all connections and talked to the UPR about it to make sure everything is ok. They said that is common and that it is will over the long term accumulate some from time to time, but the clean side will not need to be emptied every oil change or even every few.

So, yeah, while I like the idea of it, the single side cans as being recommended here offer a lot of bang the buck, so to speak. I believe UPR will sell a single sided can with nice quality lines and connectors and such, but it will be a price premium over the J&L which, by all accounts, works well.

I also went with the UPR model because of the dual side design. I go ahead and drain mine every oil change just because... might as well while I am under there. The UPR has a drain valve at bottom that you have hook up a hose to to easily drain. (close valve and remove hose when done draining)

Is the drain/hose an add in, or comes with the default setup.

That seems even more messy in an engine compartment... I actually think the threaded can that just unscrews is super easy, I add the oil in it to the oil I measure every time I do an oil change. I'm good with my current setup but always nice to see others. Heck, for those of us with these, it's more than probably 90% of owners will do.

I believe it comes standard with a plug, and you can either unscrew the can or remove the plug. It might come with a valve that doesn't have a hose. I'm not certain. They do have a magnetic plug option or the drain line kit. Mine, ordered with the drain line kit, came with a valve installed, and then it came with another valve with a nipple, some angles, and the drain hose for lots of routing options. On the kit I bought, it is advertised as:

UPR Catch Can Drain Line Kit:
The drain line kit includes a drain valve, hose and fittings needed to install the drain valve. It allows the user to relocate the drain somewhere easier to access like the wheel well opening or bumper area.
**You would select either the Stainless Steel Magnetic Drain Plug or The Catch Drain Line Kit, not both.

It's actually very clean. The hose on mine is meant to stay in place. I routed the drain line down to the frame just behind the front bumper, nearly straight below the where the can is located, and it is zip tied in place. Just slide the drain pan over and open the valve. Or, what I plan to do since I want to catch what comes out of it like you do, is set a jar under it. Mine has dual cans and the clean side has to be unscrewed, but as I mentioned above, after 1500 mines there was nothing in it, so I'll probably only check it once a year or less.

The catch can installs behind the driver side headlamp on the frame so you can hook the hose up there to easily drain it. It can be reached without removing anything.

The hose and threaded fitting is sold separately. They do sell it I believe but I reached out after I purchased and they told me what threaded fitting to get and I ordered on amazon.

What’s the P/N for the J&L can nowadays? Used to be JLT was it not? Directs to SBFilters, and they don’t list a can setup for the Ecoboost that I’ve noticed. Amazon does but when looking up on their site it points to the 5.0 with supercharger.

Don't waste your money. The newer eco boost engines have port injection rather than direct injection. That means the valves are constantly sprayed with gasoline rather than just having air passing over them. The direct inject air usually is a mix with re-ingested pcv gunk that a catch can would collect. The port injection sprays gas over the valve along with the re-ingested air mix, and the gasoline cleans the valve keeping it carbon deposit free. Just make sure you use good gas with detergents like mobile, and throw some fuel cleaner in there every once in a while and you'll be good. I almost did the same thing in getting a catch can, and I'm glad I learned about this from another fellow.
The newer ecoboost engines have BOTH port and direct injection.
