Hi Gang, our 2015 EL KR 2WD is at 100k miles and while it was in for an oil change the techs noticed that one of the turbos is leaking oil into the intake, and one of the CCD shocks is leaking. Fortunately, we bought the premiumcare warranty from ford to cover these kind of failures, and the good news is that the turbo is covered. Unfortunately, the CCD shocks are NOT covered (even though air suspension and struts ARE covered; go figure).

The dealership is quoting us $1,400 to replace one shock ($600 for the shock and 3 hours for labor). That seems, um, high.

Anyone else have a data point to share on replacing CCD shocks recently?

Related, is this really a 3 hour job for just 1 shock?! That seems excessive.

Thanks for your input.

Perhaps that includes the bogus “shop supplies” surcharge?

I replaced our CCD struts (all 4, only one was leaking) with Arnott struts. So far so good. No lights. Rides just like the “normal” setting of the CCD. Great customer service, because two struts came in with the electrical connections crushed from shipping, Arnott sent new connectors out quick and I didn’t have to deal with the returning of the struts and all that hassle. I purchased our struts from Rock Auto.
And I did the work in about 5 hours for all 4 struts. The first one took about 2.5hrs. And the rest went fast once I figured out what needed to be done. Make sure to get a good alignment afterwards.

I'm a bit late here but Varsity Ford sells the shocks and most OEM parts cheaper than other dealers. I've been ordering from them and the shipping fee is cheaper than local. Also I've been finding all Ford dealerships seem to charge an hour or more extra in time than what the technical manual calls for. I replaced a fuel neck filler on mine not too long ago and the dealership was telling me 3 hours when the tech manual called for 1.4 hours. Dealership also charged 175, the other shop I chose was 145 if I supplied my own part and I was able to watch them in the bay the whole time. Manual called for 1.4, they did it in 1, dealership quoted me 3. So every time I go tot he dealership I've been comparing. But I'm finding that the leaking CCD on mine has been leaking obviously for months and we never noticed. I'm not having any issue with it (yet). Oh, I want to say Varsity Ford was $200 cheaper on the shocks. Think it went from 600 to 400 if I remember.
