change fluid (how to)???

I want to change my trransmission fluid in my 97 expy but dont know how. what tools would I need? how much fluid should I buy? THANX

Which transmission do you have? Please let us know the model of your '97 Exby (i.e. XLT, Eddie Bauer, 4X4, 2X4, etc.)

Not enough info, unfortunately. Look at the vehicle certification sticker on the driver's door. Below the barcode are the letters "TR". Directly below "TR" will either be the letter "E", indicating the presence of the E40D transmission, or the letter "U", indicating the presence of the 4R70W transmission.

On my 99 XLT with the 5.4 motor I was able to drain the pan and I also removed a rubber stopper that covered access to the torque converter. After rotating the crank there was a small bolt, like 8mm or so that after undoing drained the converter. This allowed me to do almost a full service.
