I installed the 2012 FX4 wheels on my 04 Expy around October.. Have had the warning light on since, as the 2012 sensors are not compatible. I am contemplating having the wheels/tires re balanced using road-force balancing, but it would only make sense to have them replace the sensors while there, as I would have to pay to have them re-balanced later otherwise. We are heading on a long trip next week, so I was either going to get the sensors before then, and have them installed/rebalanced, or run the trip and worry about it when I get back.

The slight shake is at 70+, and being that we will be towing, we will probably be at 65 or 68 MPH anyways.

Cheapest place to get GOOD sensors? I'd only like to do this once. I will then sell the '12 sensors.

EDIT: I sold my 2004 wheels/tires with the sensors intact- I figured for the cost of having them removed, and then reinstalled (9year old sensors, keep in mind), I could just as soon buy new ones.

the shaking is due to balaning...make sure they are slapping ALL the weights on one spot...tends to happen with me and i take it right back...ive learned to tell them before hand to spread the weights out around the wheel and i dont have any probs...the cheapest place would be junkyard if they have a year with bands...take those wheels...2nd im guessing ebay...tascaparts.com...dealership last...search around on the net

Did you try to have them programmed to the truck? They put out the same 315mHz that the 03-04 sensors do but if you did try and they didn't program.

Found these cheaper than Tasca on Ebay 20096 Schrader TPMS Sensor (315MHz) - Ford, Lincoln, Mercury

Then you will probally need to have them programmed to the truck which any tire shop can do or go to the dealer for programming.

Thanks for all of the responses and links!

My original 04 rims had the valve-stem sensors. The urgency to replacing them this week, or waiting was due to possibly having the wheels/tires road-force balanced this week before our big trip, and not wanting to have that redone when I do the sensors. After paying a bit closer attention, I noticed the truck does not have the same shake when it is warm out or has been driven throughout the day, only after sitting overnight or for many days at a time. After researching, the Pirelli Scorpions are notorious for flat-spotting, which goes away after a bit of driving. At least I know I'm not crazy.

These tires came on the '12 FX4 wheels I bought. When I replace them, I will be sure not to go with the same tires. Have always had great luck with Michelins.
