im thinking about buyng a code scanner , but i dont have any idea what obdl or obdll id all about , i bought a 97 expedition and the check engine light is on now id like to resolve it myself without going to a shop.. anyone have any suggestions?

autozone checks it for free.they also sell the code scanners

All vehicles from 1996 and newer use OBDII.

I have a buddy who has one, and it sure makes life easier to troubleshoot!

Do a web search, you should find a lot of models and prices out there,
