how does 1 get codes? i'm having slight misfirings & want to see if it's something in the engine or something else. thanks in advance.

I believe most have code readers or may use their programmer to read them.

Go to amazon and do search for Ford code scanner..

If you have a check engine light on, you can go to most any auto parts store (autozone, o'reilly etc.) and they should have the scanner usable for free.

Sorry, can't help. On my 2012 you can do a series of button pushes on the ACM and it will bring up any codes that are stored. Don't know about the first gen

yeah it's a '99. i know w/ my Caddy i could do a series of button presses & it would give me codes. no Check Engine light so far, but i did notice today that my ABS light came on, only to go away then next time i got in my truck.

Mine used to do that too. It would turn on the ABS while making right hand turns into parking spaces and stuff. It got so bad and I was so broke, I just removed the ABS fuse. Now my ABS light is on all the time, and the system does not engage. Fine by me cause i rarely need it, even in snow.
