First off, I would like to say that this is my first visit here, and I am a recent owner of a new (Used) 1997 ford expedition, and I must say that I am quite impressed right now. I thought for sure i'd have a gas gussler, but it's not bad.

Now, on to the post reason: I have a couple electrical problems that have been around since I got it, and would like to address them: Listed in order of remembrance.

Running board lights - None of them work. I am not sure if all 4 bulbs went out (Which is unlikely), or if there is a relay/fuse/connection somewhere that's broken. Is there a single relay/fuse that operates only the running board lights?

If it's a broken wire somewhere, it may be easy to fix as I have alot of wire, but I have a couple questions. Does each side have it's own set of wires that runs down? If so, the likelihood of both sides being bad is what?

My other problem, is my interior DOME light problem. My center dome light doesnt work (Which I am assuming is because previous owner cut out the plug for the bulb to sit in), but the two rear dome lights above the back doors dont come on either. Now, I am wondering if the dome lights hook up to the same circuit as the running boards, and there is a burned up fuse or relay somewhere.

The two front door lights come on when you open the door, and the instrument cluster lights up, but none of the interior dome lights come on, and neither do the running board lights.

Where do you guys suggest starting for diagnosing?

It's a 1997 expedition, Eddie Bauer edition.

OH, and one more thing. I noticed when I turn my turn signals on, that the lights in both mirrors are very dim and faded (The mirror isnt peeling or anything, the arrows in the mirror are just barely visible). Is there a way to replace the bulbs in them, or does it require the entire mirror to be replaced? Can I just buy new bulbs that go into the sockets behind the mirror and put them in there?

If I could get some enlightenment, I would appreciate it!

I just replaced all four lights because three were out. I have had my 97 for over 10 years and I have had to do it every 3-4 years. I did notice that one was loose. I am willing to bet that yours are just blown. I also just noticed after all this time that when the truck is running and you open the door, they do not light. Never thought to look before.

It is most likely that you just need to put new bulbs in everything. Good luck.

When I was reading the manual once it said that the mirror signals shouldn't be seen when inside the truck, turn on the flashers and go behind the truck and look at them. You should see a big difference, I thought the same thing at first.:)
