I have a 2005 that I purchased two months ago. The cruise control rarely works. I try it every day, and one day out of ten it might work. I'm guessing a bad connection or a faulty module? Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

I feel your pain. That happened on my silverado. I found after months of it rarely working that if I put the blinker on for one click then set it it'd work.

Ha, great. I was thinking about cleaning connections, I need to buy a Chiltons.

don't waste your money on a Chiltons

Ford workshop manual on DVD. Can be obtained from seller "morpheousking" on e-bay. Cost about $15.00 Much better than Clymer, Haynes or Chilton and also includes wiring diagrams

Don't waste your money on a Clymer, Haynes or Chilton Manual.
It is well worth the $15.00 just make sure you get the DVD for your year as the seller has different DVD's for different years One of the problems could be a bad brake switch The switch does more that just control the brake lights

Nice info. Thanks!

EDIT: it would make sense if the brake switch was out. I hadn't thought of that.

the Air bag sliding contact also have to do with the speed control as well as the controls The manual I suggest will give very detailed prints and instructions on trouble shooting the system However the DVD is only for PC not for MAC

Condition
The speed control is inoperative

Possible Sources Action
Circuitry
Clockspring
Speed control switches
Digital transmission range (TR) sensor
Powertrain control module (PCM)

Hmm, I wonder which one would be more likely to have intermittent inoperability... Or which one I would be able to test.

Being you say that it does work sometimes I would suspect a switch may be the problem

When you get it to work Does it stay engaged on does it drop out on its own??

Another item that could cause a problem with the wiring is the tilt steering wheel as moving it causes wear or the wires

It has both stayed on and immediately turned off after switching on.

I put in the new switch yesterday, tried several on/off switchings, and it seems to be working perfectly! I'll test it some more today. Thank you so much for the help.
