I want to build a custom bumper, only for looks, but in the style of a heavy duty bumper, has anyone done this yet? what do y'all think the best materials would be to use?

how should i go about it in the first place?

I was thinking i could use an existing bumper piece and enhance it using bondo or body filler or something and maybe fiberglass? but i have no idea on how to use any of that stuff, or if the existing bumper will need to be cut.

anyways, that is my next big project for my truck!

well no one has an answer :(

I have researched all morning and have come up with a plan, i just have to draw it out and do a little more research and get some supplies, I have absolutely no idea how this will turn out but hopefully i don't spend over 200 dollars on this project.

If i was making a mold i could make thousands of dollars selling fiberglass "off-road" iron bull style'd bumpers huh? haha

Most of us want our bumpers to be tough and safe.... something that a fiberglass one just isn't.

yeah i understand that, like i said im not into wheeling i just like the look of the body armor and such bumpers, but don't need the functionality of one, and paying over 1000 for one is retarded for myself.

If you are doing it just for looks , and want to make a bumper out of fiberglass... there are a lot of cheaper alternatives you could use...:angels25:

Mine was from Tactical Armor Group. It starts at about $600. Mine was $1010 with options and shipping from Atlanta to Cleveland.

The thing is, if you make a fiberglass bumper, you're essentially running with out a front bumper at all. Not the safest thing to do on public streets.

If you are really intent on going this way, I would build a sub structure out of 4" or 6" channel, securely bolt it to the frame, and then build whatever you want around that sub structure.

i agree with the safety aspect, these things do hold their own in a collision but i wouldnt lower my odds in the department
